Focus and Scope

continent. is a contemporary platform for new forms of media scholarship. continent creates and publishes a media-agnostic, para-academic internet-based journal, as well as other forms that explore the future of knowledge-making practices.

Recognizing that the academic journal has operated as a means for transmitting thought, and by technological convention has mediated this thought through text; continent. exists to promote and explore thinking across a variety of media, and as such welcomes a range of submissions including text and scholarly articles as well as images (still and moving), poetry, fiction, sound, and other media.

Scholarly articles submitted to continent. may be reviewed using traditional peer review.

Other Modes of Thinking
Non-text submission formats, or formats which are layout specific, such as images (still and moving), poetry, fiction, sound, or online media are reviewed and curated by the editors.

Our Vision

Our mission
continent. is a contemporary platform for new forms of media scholarship. continent creates and publishes a media-agnostic, para-academic internet-based journal, as well as other forms that explore the future of knowledge-making practices.

Our vision
We will accomplish our mission using and promoting Open Source publishing an Open Access journal practices so that we can ensure a common good for our authors, readers and community. We will accomplish our mission through a transparent and reflexive program of measuring, recording, and publishing our ability to meet our stated policies regarding publication standards so that we can innovate the delivery of Open Access, peer-reviewed academic journals.
We will further accomplish our mission by organizing and hosting meetings, symposia, and conferences. At a low frequency, we will create collections and media objects and artefacts that signpost our activities beyond the online journal platform.
We affirm the necessity to interact with trust, respect, and compassion for our colleagues if we are to achieve our mission. continent. is done out of love for its active community, and a orientation toward hacking academic cultures and systems.
