Focus and Scope

Recognizing that the academic journal has operated as a means for transmitting thought, and by technological convention has mediated this thought through text; continent. exists to promote and explore thinking across a variety of media, and as such welcomes a range of submissions including text and scholarly articles as well as images (still and moving), poetry, fiction, sound, and other media.

Peer Review Process

Scholarly Articles and Essays

Scholarly articles submitted to continent. are reviewed using an Open Peer Commentary.

Open Peer Commentaries

The purpose of the Open Peer Commentary service is to provide a concentrated, constructive interaction between the author of a Target Article and commentators on a topic judged to be of broad significance to the community. Commentaries are original text limited to 1500 words and should provide substantive criticism, interpretation, and elaboration as well as any pertinent complementary or supplementary material, such as illustrations. Proposals for Open Peer Commentary are solicited for select Target Articles, which may be read and downloaded via the contintent. site. All authors interested in writing a commentary must first submit a short proposal (2-4 sentences) via the continent. site, uploaded as a .doc, .pdf, or .txt file. Authors of selected proposals will then have 2-3 weeks to submit their final manuscript, also uploaded as a .doc, .pdf, or .txt file.

Other Modes of Thinking

Non-text submission formats, or formats which are layout specific, such as images (still and moving), poetry, fiction, sound, or online media are reviewed and curated by the editors.
